At Glasswing International's 10th annual gala, philanthropist Howard Warren Buffett made a generous donation of $11.6 million to the nonprofit organization. The donation was made on behalf of the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, which strives to bring about transformative change and improve the living standards of the world's most impoverished communities. Buffett stated in a press release, "Glasswing has been a valuable ally for us in our mission in Latin America, where we have not only impacted the lives of millions of young people but also demonstrated the possibilities when investing in communities."
Glasswing International, based in El Salvador, works across Latin America to convert public schools into vibrant community centers. These centers provide access to mental health support, vocational and entrepreneurial training, and networking opportunities. The Howard G. Buffett Foundation has previously donated $65 million to Glasswing since their collaboration began in 2018. Buffett continued, "Central American youth can be catalysts for change in their home countries if we have the courage to believe in them and invest."
The gala also recognized model and entrepreneur Valentina Ferrer for her work supporting migrant youth in New York City. Ferrer announced a partnership between Glasswing and Vibra En Alta, J Balvin's foundation that focuses on education and mental health. It is worth noting that Balvin and Ferrer have been in a relationship since 2018.
The glamorous event, held at Cipriani 25 Broadway, was attended by over 450 guests. Co-chairs for the gala included Carmen Busquets, co-founder of Net-a-Porter; Valentina Bueno Marin, executive director of the Con Cora Foundation; and Jana Pasquel de Shapiro, president of Munnu The Gem Palace. Glasswing co-founders Celina de Sola, Ken Baker, and Diego de Sola welcomed the guests, and the night ended with a performance by DJ Bash.
